Beagle - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog - Hobo
CHARACTERISTICS:
Breed: Beagle DOB: 2006 Sex: Neutered male Weight: 30 pounds If Hobo were a person, I think he would be a fireman! Hobo is adventurous, smart, athletic, friendly, outgoing, and he likes to work and play hard. Hobo originated as astray dog at animal control, and I was so impressed with his temperament that I wanted to make sure he had a second chance at a family. Having bragged about his temperament and personality, I must tell you that Hobo is also still a puppy in many ways! He has a mischievous side and needs to be kept busy or he will find his own activities. Although Hobo has the curiosity and mischievous tendencies of a typical beagle, he is more focused and has been easier to train than beagles are known to be. He still jumps up frequently, but responds with a polite sit when reminded, "Off". He counter surfs too but isn't tall enough to be very successful, and again, he will put his feet back on the ground when reminded gently. Hobo knows sit and down, is working on stay, and he has the focus and motivation to excel at obedience. Hobo is house trained, with just an occasional leg lifting accident that has become more and more unusual as he has settled in. He also stays in a crate when he can't be supervised, and he can be vehement about getting out when he gets bored or when there are activities going on that he wants to participate in (like other dogs wrestling). He does settle down when the rest of the house is settled, but this will likely be an area that requires some patience from his new family as Hobo adjusts to a new environment. Hobo would love a family who will spend time playing with and exercising him, training him, and including him in family activities. Beagles usually cannot be trusted off leash, so Hobo should have a physical (not invisible) fence to allow him to exercise and play safely. Hobo would most likely enjoy children of all ages, but any kids he lives with should be sturdy enough to withstand some jumping up and to protect their food from beagle greediness. Hobo *loves* to play with other dogs, and he wrestles and runs like a big dog. Less playful dogs could easily be overwhelmed by Hobo, but he would be in heaven with another active dog to play with! He is also tolerant of cats and has not displayed more than casual interest in the two cats in his foster home.
