English Pointer - Medium - Adult - Female - Dog - Lady Jane
Description
FYI: All dogs are located in Williamston, MI (which is near Lansing, MI) unless stated otherwise at the top of their petfinder listing. We get dogs from all over the country, so we like to list where they came from as their hometown. Name: Lady Jane Breed: English Pointer Size: 50 lbs Color: Orange and White Age: 4 years old Hometown: Cannelton, IN Date arrived at Pointers From Oz: April 11, 2009 More pictures: To see all of the pictures we have of Lady, please click on the Pointers From Oz link on this page. Lady will be listed as both a Pointer and an English Pointer with different pictures on each listing. Her story: Lady was a stray that arrived at the animal control shelter in Cannelton. She was in foster care through the shelter for a year, but was not advertised very well, so was still looking for a home. When she finally was listed on petfinder, we let her foster home know that we could refer people to her to help find Lady a home. Her foster home really adored her, but felt that she would find a home faster up near us. She is a gentle soul, easy going, gets along with everyone. When Lady arrived with us, she spent a month (4/11 to 5/18/09) in foster care in Williamston, MI (Neo was in foster care with her). When Neo was adopted, Lady went to stay with his new family for a few weeks but two dogs proved to be a bit too much for Neos new family, so she came back to us (that was in early June). Sadly, her foster home was not able to take her back at that time due to summer vacation plans and kids schedules. So, Lady stayed with us in our house for about a month. Recently (7/15/09), Lady was able to move to a new foster home in Kalamazoo, MI. The biggest reason that Lady is still with us is she began having urinary accidents in her first foster home. She was treated for a urinary tract infection, and then we became concerned that she had urinary incontinence so wanted to evaluate her further. She has not had any accidents in two months, and we believe that she must have had a urinary tract infection they can often develop with stress and new routines and it began soon after she moved from Indiana (where shed lived for a year) to Michigan. Her personality: Lady is sweet, friendly and very well mannered. While we are not a huge fan of her name, we will say that it describes her perfectly. She should do well in just about any family. Lady is a very easy keeper... if you are looking for a great, easy going girl, Lady is the one for you. She walks very well on leash, loves children, and loves to snuggle. She does love to run outside but does fine without a whole lot of exercise. Other dogs: Lady is great with other dogs. Cats: Lady passed our cat test. Most Pointers are good with cats, but some are a little too interested in them and want to point, bark at, or chase them so we like to screen for that. Kids: Lady would be great with kids. She has lived with small children in two different homes (including an infant in one of her foster homes) and done well. Housetraining: Lady is house trained and crate trained. However, we have found that given the chance, Lady will urinate in carpeted areas in the house. We did not have this problem at our house since we have wood laminate flooring. She has had accidents in two different foster homes on carpeting though... so we are looking for a home for her with hardwood flooring (if you have carpeted areas, you'll need to keep those doors closed or restrict her from that part of the house with a baby gate). This seems to be Lady's only "flaw"... so if you are willing to deal with this, you have a perfect dog! Fencing Needs: Lady would do well with a standard or invisible fence. She could be in a home with leash walks only if her owner was dedicated to making sure she got enough exercise (through jogging, the dog park, doggy daycare, etc). Her current foster home has an acre and does not have a fence. She is supervised when she is outside, and she comes when she is called and never goes too far (she did this after being there less than 24 hours!). She is one good dog!!! Hunting Potential: We are not looking for a hunting home for lady. She is showbred and we are not sure she would do well with it. She also was very scared of fireworks, so we are guessing she is gun shy. Remember, our first priority is to find our foster dogs wonderful homes. Birddogs could care less if they go hunting or not, they just want plenty of outdoor time and families that love them. The vast majority of the dogs we adopt go to pet homes, where they are happy to chase and point bug, butterflies, and songbirds. Only about 1% go to hunting homes (where they are still spoiled family members). Vet Stuff: Lady is up to date on vaccines, tested negative for heartworm, and has been spayed.
