Description
FYI: All dogs are located in Williamston, MI (which is near Lansing, MI) unless stated otherwise at the top of their petfinder listing. We get dogs from all over the country, so we like to list where they came from as their hometown. Name: Lovey Breed: English Pointer Size: 45 lbs (and shes already put on over 10 pounds!) Color: Orange and White Age: 5 years old Hometown: Quincy, Illinois Date arrived at Pointers From Oz: February 6, 2009 More pictures: To see all of the pictures we have of Lovey, please click on the Pointers From Oz link on this page. Lovey will be listed as both a Pointer and an English Pointer with different pictures on each listing. Her story: This is the email we were forwarded from the dog warden that had Lovey at her shelter, This sweet poor girl is from a cruelty case I worked, the owner surrendered her, she was stuck in a little cage on concrete, no food, water or shelter, when asked what the dogs name was he told me he didn't have one for her he just called her dog, when I asked how old she was he said he had no idea and didn't care, she is very sweet, And considering everything she has been through she still loves people.. Amazing... DOESN'T LOVEY DESERVE A CHANCE?. Lovey was scheduled for euthanasia at 5pm that day, so we said that we would take her in. Luckily, she found a great temporary foster home in Illinois to stay at for a week before she came out to us and a great transport friend offered to bring her home from Chicago when she was out there for a trip. So, it all seemed to come together. Lovey has a tattoo in her ear, indicated that she was previously used as a research dog at a dog food plant in Illinois. The company uses English Pointers and German Shorthaired Pointers... and we and Illinois Birddog Rescue have taken in many dogs from them (including Andy and Sean). Unfortunately, this company will not turn the dogs over to rescue when they are done using them. Instead, they give them away for free to unscreened homes. Sadly, these dogs are often dumped, neglected, abused... or simply put in homes that are not equipped to handle a Pointer. Lovey may have even been used as a breeding dog at the company. Her personality: Lovey is a sweet, mellow girl. She is understandably a bit undersocialized, but she really wants to be your friend. She would come around well with some TLC she is not terrified or skittish, just unsure. And Lovey loves to play fetch with a tennis ball and run around the dog park! Other dogs: Lovey can be dominant towards other dogs, but is fine with them in social settings (like the dog park). Thus, we are looking for an only dog home for Lovey. Cats: Lovey did well with the cats in her temporary foster home in Chicago, so she can be placed in a home with kitties. Kids: Lovey would do fine with older, gentle kids (over age 12 and up). Housetraining: Lovey is housetrained and crate trained. Fencing Needs: Lovey would do well with a standard or invisible fence. She could also live in a home where her exercise was by leash walks (and maybe a couple trips a week to the dog park). Hunting Potential: We are not looking for a hunting home for Lovey. Remember, our first priority is to find our foster dogs wonderful homes. Birddogs could care less if they go hunting or not, they just want plenty of outdoor time and families that love them. The vast majority of the dogs we adopt go to pet homes, where they are happy to chase and point bug, butterflies, and songbirds. Only about 1% go to hunting homes (where they are still spoiled family members). Vet Stuff: Lovey is up to date on vaccines and tested heartworm negative. We believe that she may have already been spayed, so we are monitoring her to see if she comes into heat before we sign her up for surgery. Like all of our foster dogs, she is current on flea and heartworm preventative. Adoption Fee: Please click on the Pointers From Oz link on the right of this page for information about our adoption fees. If you are interested in Lovey: If you are interested in talking about Lovey and then coming to meet her, please call Erin at (517) 648-1666. After our phone interview, if you seem like a good match, we can set up an appointment for you to come and meet her. Lovey and I look forward to hearing from you.
