Pointer - Medium - Young - Female - Dog - Dahlia
Description
FYI: All dogs are located in Williamston, MI which is near Lansing unless stated otherwise at the top of their petfinder listing. We get dogs from all over the country, so we like to list where they came from as their hometown. Name: Dahlia Breed: English Pointer Size: 36 lbs Color: Liver and White Age: 3 years (Date of Birth approximately 5/1/06) Hometown: Canton, Georgia Date arrived at Pointers From Oz: Dahlia originally arrived at Pointers From Oz on May 5, 2007. She was adopted on January 26, 2008 along with Susie. Both girls were returned in early September 2009 because their family has a new baby in the house and can no longer take care of the girls. The girls are very bummed to be homeless once again. We are looking for homes for them separately or together. It is typically very hard to find a home that wants to take on two new dogs - so if you are only up for one of them, don't feel bad about splitting them up. If you do want both girls, that would be wonderful, so also let us know if that is an option. More pictures: To see all six pictures we have of Dahlia up, click on the Pointers From Oz link on this page. Then look at the petfinder scroller. Dahlia is listed as both a Pointer and an English Pointer with different pictures on each. Her story: Dahlia urgently needed to be pulled out of a Georgia shelter. The shelter gave Dahlia a few extra days so that we could arrange a transport for her, but they said that was all they could do. Luckily, with a lot of great volunteers, we got her moved up north. Her personality: Dahlia is a slightly shy little girl. Until she got to rescue, she hadn't seen much of the world yet. We work with a lot of shy Pointers like Dahlia that have spent their entire lives in a kennel run. They are amazing to work with and just blossom and become great pets. We would love to see Dahlia reach her full potential and find a loving forever family. Dahlia spent several months in foster care, and soaked up the love and new experiences there. Dahlia quickly took to house life - she's crate trained, housetrained, and loves to snuggle. She lives with two other dogs, and likes having doggy buddies. But, we think she'd be equally happy as an only dog. Other dogs: Dahlia is great with other dogs. She sometimes growls over food and toys, so she may do better as an only dog... or in a household where the dogs are fed seperately and given special treats (like bones) seperately. She loves her crate, so would be happy to eat or get treats in there while another dog was loose in the house with theirs. Cats: Dahlia is great with cats and lived with them in her foster home. Kids: Since she was initally shy, we are looking for a home with gentle, respectful kids over age 10. Housetraining: Dahlia is housetrained and crate trained. Fencing Needs: Dahlia would do well with a taller standard fence (6 feet) or preferably an invisible fence. Her foster family had a standard fence that is about 5-6 feet high. Her original adoptive family had a 4 foot fence and Dahlia learned to jump it. She always returned home, but it obviously isn't safe. Thus, an underground fence would be preferred, but a family with a taller fence that is willing to monitor her would also be fine. If you are set on Dahlia and have a standard fence, it is very easy to add an invisible fence to your existing fence, so that is an option. Hunting Potential: Since Dahlia is a shy girl, we are not looking for a hunting home for her. Our first priority is to find our foster dogs wonderful homes. Birddogs could care less if they go hunting or not, they just want plenty of outdoor time and families that love them. The vast majority of the dogs we adopt go to pet homes, where they are happy to chase and point bug, butterflies, and songbirds. Only about 1% go to hunting homes (where they are still spoiled family members). Vet Stuff: Dahlia is up to date on vaccines, spayed, and heartworm negative (and is current on heartworm preventative). Adoption Fee: Please click on the Pointers From Oz link on the right of this page for information about our adoption fees. If you are interested in Dahlia: If you are interested in talking about Dahlia and then coming to meet her, please call Erin at (517) 648-1666. After our phone interview, if you seem like a good match, we can set up an appointment for you to come and meet her. Dahlia and I look forward to hearing from you.
